George Herman ‘Babe’ Ruth was an American baseball player. His career in Major League Baseball lasted from 1913 to 1935, spanning 22 seasons. He was nicknamed “The Bambino” and “The Sultan of Swat”. He made several batting and pitching records in his career, most notably, career home runs (714), runs batted in (2,213), bases on balls (2,062) and others. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest baseball players in all of history and one of the most celebrated American athletes of his time.
Babe Ruth was born in 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland to parents of German ancestry. Ruth made his first professional appearance in 1914 as a ballplayer in an inter-squad game. He began his career as a left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and later rose to fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees. Ruth retired in 1935 ending his 22-year long career. He passed on Aug 16, 1948
