Pranab Mukherjee was the former President of India, who served the office from 2012 to 2017. With a political career spanning five decades, Mukherjee was one of the most respected and experienced politicians in the country. Pranab Mukherjee was born to a Bengali family in Mirati. His father, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee was an active member of the Independence movement. He did his M.A in Political Science and an L.L.B from the University of Calcutta.
He entered politics as one of the founding members of the Bangla Congress and later joined the INC after being recognized by Indira Gandhi to whom he was a protege. He was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and held several ministerial positions over the years. He has served as the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Finance, Minister of External Affairs, and Minister of Defence. He passed away on 31 August 2020 at the age of 84.
