Larry King was an American television host, radio host, and spokesman. He helped in creating the Larry King Live show from 1985 to 2010, one of CNN’s most popular and longest-running shows. He has been accorded with several awards including two Peabodys, an Emmy, and 10 Cable ACE Awards. King began as a local Florida based journalist and radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s and gained prominence in 1978 as host of The Larry King Show. He also hosted Politicking with Larry King, a weekly political talk show which aired on the same two channels from 2013 until his death in 2021.
King was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 19, 1933. His parents were Orthodox Jews who emigrated to the United States from Belarus in the 1930s. King’s father died when he was nine years old and this affected him gravely, resulting in him losing interest in schoolwork. He always desired to work at the radio station. In 1960 he broke into television with a Miami-based talk show. King also wrote for a number of Miami newspapers during that period. Apart from his breakthrough – The Larry King Show, other shows included the Larry King Live on CNN and Politicking with Larry King. He passed away on January 23, 2021.
1 I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything, so if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening. Larry King
You cannot learn if all you do is just ramble on. You need to listen keenly with an open mind to those who know more, if you want to learn and grow.
2 I never forgot being poor, and I never stopped thinking how fortunate I am. -Larry King
Never forget where you came from and the struggles that you had to face. And once you make it big in life, never forget to be grateful for everything that you have right now. You are more fortunate than most people and you need to be satisfied with that.
3 I’m 80 years old, and I don’t know what I’m going to be when I grow up. -Larry King
You are old only when you feel that you are. Your age is just a number and not an indication of your youth. You can be young for as long as you feel like it in your heart. Always keep the spirit of youth burning in your heart.
4 If you do something, expect consequences. -Larry King
Everything that you do in life, every action and every decision, all of it comes with its own consequences. You cannot escape it no matter how much you wish otherwise. Evaluate the consequences and act accordingly.
5 Good writers are in the business of leaving signposts saying, Tour my world, see and feel it through my eyes; I am your guide. -Larry King
Writing is a process of worldbuilding and letting your readers explore that world through your eyes. A writer takes you through a world that he has created and lets you see the bits and pieces of himself that he has left in his writing.
6 I was always telling everyone, I want to be a broadcaster, They’d say, ‘What, are you crazy? What, you’re going to be Arthur Godfrey?’ -Larry King
People will always try to pull you down. They will always demotivate you, judge you and criticise you. Your job is to pay no heed to them and carry on with whatever you are doing.
7 If I do something caring for a friend, I have no doubt in my mind they would do it for me. -Larry King
Any act of kindness that you show to a real friend never goes to waste. They will always remember that and pay you back. Whenever you are in a tight spot, real friends will help you through it.
8 I’ve made a lot of mistakes, I’ve bonded with some people who use you, and some people that take advantage of you. -Larry King
Life is a wonderful journey where you will inevitably make mistakes, stumble and even fall down. But what matters is that you do not give up. It is an uncertain journey full of surprises. Along the way, you’ll befriend people you never thought you will, some of them will use you, hurt you, but all of it is an inevitable part of life.
9 It’s joyful to give. But for people who want to take advantage of you, you’re kind of an easy mark. -Larry King
To help others and show kindness is a really great feeling. But there will be quite a lot of people around you who will use you and take advantage of you if you are not cautious. To them, you may seem like a gullible person.
10 They look at you and think, ‘Wow! Everything must be great!’ Well, everything isn’t always great. -Larry King
Not everyone who seems cheerful is having the best time of their lives. Everyone you see is fighting their own battles and going through their own hard times. Never judge someone based on what they seem like from the outside. You never know their story.

12 Basically, what it comes down to is I love what I do, I don’t do it for fame, I don’t do it for money, I just love it. Larry King
Work for your passion not for a paycheck. The money that you make will have no value if you hate the job that you do. Fame and wealth are secondary. The gratification of doing a job that you really love is what matters.
