Henry Ford was an American industrialist and the founder of the Ford Motor Company. He is credited to be the chief developer of the assembly line technique of mass production. He converted the automobile industry to one that is affordable and accessible to middle-class Americans. The Model T automobile developed by him revolutionized the transportation industry. The method of mass production of inexpensive goods coupled with high wages for workers has been named “Fordism” after him.
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 2863, on a farm in Springwells Township, Michigan. He showed an interest in mechanics from an early age. At 12, he had already made a small machine shop for himself and at 15, he constructed his first steam engine. The first Ford engine was built in the winter of 1893 due to his interest in internal combustion engines and the first Ford car was completed in July 1896. And in 1903, Henry and 12 others invested and created the Ford Motor Company. He passed away on April 7, 1947, at his residence at the age of 83. His contribution to the automobile industry has been immense.
