6 You are safe, you are loved, you are Thena. -Ajak
When Thena loses control and is overtaken by a mysterious being inside her, it is only Ajak who is able to subdue her. She speaks these lines as though it’s a mantra and calms her down. It isn’t until we’re late into the plot that it is revealed to us that it is nothing but her unerased memories that surface from time to time and take over Thena’s personality.

The Eternals were barred from interfering in any human affairs. They were to be left on their own. With their superior technological knowledge and intelligence, the Eternals would have only disturbed the natural order of things. Humans had to learn everything on their own, fight their own battles and grow at their own pace.
16 I thought we were heroes, Turns out we’re the bad guys. -Gilgamesh
Arishem and Ajak had hidden any knowledge of the ‘Emergence’ from the Eternals. They weren’t the heroes they thought they were, but rather the villains.

22 You know why I hated living with humans? Because they reminded me of things I didn’t even know I wanted. -Sprite
Sprite’s villainous turn stemmed from her disillusionment with immortality. She looked like a child and because she didn’t age, she always had the same form which denied her the opportunity to live a normal life in human civilization like the other Eternals. Humans reminded her of everything she didn’t have and yet wanted. This resentment led to her teaming up with Ikaris to bring forth humanity’s destruction.
