As the heist comes to a close, the Professor executes one his most ingenious checkmates ever. He reveals his secret plan that he’d laid down way before the heist began. Tamayo essentially had two choices: he either had to choose to accept the professor’s offer, take the fake gold and be a national hero or kill them, choose to give up the gold and watch the nation fall into bankruptcy.

All throughout the show, the Professor keeps saying that heists are his way of talking to his deceased father and brother. But towards the end of the show, when he faces off against Tamayo, Professor finally accepts his identity as a thief. He had been lying to himself all this while but now, he’s proud to be a thief and is finally owning his identity, no matter what anyone else thinks.
