Batman has spent so much time in the shadows that he has become the shadows itself. He’s not just a vigilante in a suit but the darkness of the night itself. He’s the vengeance that the crime-filled streets of Gotham needs.

In the final fight against the Joker, the latter laughingly says, “You can’t beat me this time”. Batman replies by saying that he’ll never let him win, come what may. As the saviour of Gotham, he couldn’t let Joker win at any cost.

Even after being defeated by Batman, Bane has one last attack left in him to grab Batman, telling him he’s going to break him. Batman retorts by telling that this time, he’s going to break him, before finally ramming the batmobile into Bane.

In the end, Batman initiates the Knightfall Protocol and fakes Bruce Wayne’s death. He becomes the caped crusader for life, a much more powerful version of the Batman who has nothing to fear.

Scarecrow is the master of fear. He taps into the fear of his victims and uses that against them. As someone who uses and deals with fear, according to him, fear was the basis of life and what added meaning to it.

After being unmasked to the world, Bruce Wayne conquers his fear thus making Scarecrow’s fear toxin useless against him. He goes on to use the toxin against scarecrows and says these iconic lines full of irony.
