1 So I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you
Be deliberate in living your life. Be clear about what you want to achieve. Know what to ask for and how to ask for it.
2 Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day
Live in the moment. Do the right things today so that tomorrow doesn’t trouble you. Don’t worry about something that happens next, but worry about the present instead.
3 If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven
To be good, you need to do good. The best way to do good is to help the poor. Their sufferings will be reduced and you will be rewarded in the afterlife.
4 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and everyone who humbles himself will be exalted
When you are arrogant, you will be made to behave humbly. When you are humble, you will rise among people. Be humble, not arrogant.
5 Give to everyone who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them
When people ask from you something, give it to them. This will happen to you as well. Giving is the biggest reward someone ever received.
6 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust
When you love your enemies, they love you back. This brings peace as well. Love is a powerful tool that brings down hate.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy
When you are merciful, you are shown mercy as well. Mercy makes people kinder and compassionate and brings peace and harmony as well. Thus, you are blessed when you are merciful.
8 When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it
When you find a chance, take a chance and take a leap in faith. You may or may not make it immediately, but you will definitely make it. The joy and fulfillment are also in the pursuit.
9 When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well
When we are being pushed, it’s more natural for us to push back. But, when we pull them closer to us instead of pushing them back, there would also be less conflict. Always respond with love.
10 Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles
Always go the extra mile in everything you do. Pursue excellence in all your undertakings.tThis excellence will reap you good rewards.
11 By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned
Your words have power over your life and the life of others. Always be truthful in what you say and be trustworthy with your promises. When in doubt with what to say, say words of love.
12 Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.
When you judge others, you are also judged by them. If you measure their success based on their job titles, chances are that’s also how you measure your own success. Stop judging people and move ahead
13 Do to others whatever you would have them do to you
What do you want others to do to you and for you? Do the same to them and for them. This is the golden rule of life.
14 If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions
Unforgiveness weighs down not only the unforgiven person, but also the person not giving his or her forgiveness. Set others free by forgiving them and, ultimately, you set yourself free.
15 Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words—go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet
No matter what you do or no matter how hard you try, you cannot please everyone. Not everyone will believe in you. Move on and spend your best energy and your best effort for people who do.
